For years, Carl Kühne KG (GmbH & Co.) has been committed to the important issue of handling resources respectfully and consciously. That is why environmental protection is an integral part of our corporate practice. This includes focusing on increasing energy efficiency, reducing emissions and conserving resources.
We set our goal according to the core objectives of the Federal Republic of Germany in its energy and climate policy: by 2020, we aim to reduce greenhouse gases by 40%, based on the 1990 emission levels. It is also our goal to consume 20% less oil and gas and 10% less electricity by 2020, based on the 2008 levels. This means, the annual target has been set at 2% under-consumption of oil, gas and electricity. In 2015, our energy management system was certified according to DIN ISO 50001. A current project involved optimising pumping systems and replacing them with more efficient pumps. This is an annual savings of 35,000 KWh of electricity which corresponds to 17 17 t CO². We generate more savings through our field cooperation with the Continental Foods company. The result are synergy effects that offer a reduction of 700,000 kilometres travelled. This in turn corresponds to 90 t less of carbon emissions. Through these measures alone, Carl Kühne KG (GmbH & Co.) was able to save about 1,300 tons of CO². For comparison: this corresponds to about 2.7 million KWh, thus the average energy consumption of 600 4-person households for one year.
