Picklefest Canada 2026

Discover Canada’s coast-to-coast celebration of all things pickled.

The worldwide pickle hype shows no sign of slowing down. From creative restaurant dishes and viral food trends to festivals dedicated entirely to briny flavours, pickles have become a genuine cultural phenomenon. Canada has been part of this movement since 2023, when its first Picklefest brought pickle lovers, producers and inventive food makers together. Since then, the festival has continued to grow, and Kühne has proudly been involved from the start.

The worldwide pickle hype

Pickles are having a moment. Once seen mainly as a classic side for burgers, sandwiches and hearty dishes, they have become one of the food world’s most playful and versatile ingredients.
On restaurant menus and social media feeds, pickles now appear in everything from pizza and salads to sauces, snacks and unexpected desserts. Their popularity is easy to understand: pickles offer a distinctive combination of crunch, acidity and seasoning that can add excitement and balance to a wide variety of dishes.
The trend goes far beyond food. Pickle-inspired fashion, merchandise, competitions and social media content have turned the humble gherkin into a pop-culture phenomenon. Pickle lovers are proudly celebrating their favourite snack, while curious newcomers are discovering just how varied the world of pickled and fermented foods can be.

Pickle festivals popping up

As the global pickle hype continues, dedicated pickle festivals are bringing fans, food makers and brands together. These events celebrate not only pickled cucumbers, but also fermentation in all its creative forms.

Visitors may discover artisan pickles, sauerkraut, kimchi, hot sauces, fermented drinks and imaginative pickle-inspired dishes. Live music, tastings, home-pickling competitions and family activities help to create an atmosphere that sits somewhere between a food market and a joyful cultural celebration.

Festivals such as Picklesburgh in the United States and the Big Brine Festival in London show how enthusiastically food fans have embraced bold, briny flavours. Canada has now developed its own distinctive pickle celebration too.

Canada has been celebrating Picklefest since 2023

Canada’s Picklefest began in Toronto in 2023, bringing together producers and visitors with a shared appreciation for pickled and fermented food. The first Toronto edition featured around 30 vendors and was designed as an inclusive celebration of everything brined, cured, marinated or preserved.

Since then, the event has grown considerably. What started as a Toronto festival has developed into a national tour. The 2026 Picklefest programme includes six Canadian cities, stretching from Victoria on the West Coast to Charlottetown on Prince Edward Island.

Toronto remains the largest stop. Its 2026 edition features more than 50 vendors across two days, with thousands of pickle fans expected to attend.

Kühne: part of Canada’s Picklefest from the start

Kühne has participated in the Canadian Picklefest story from the very beginning. As Germany’s No. 1 brand for pickled gherkins and one of Europe’s largest gherkin producers, we know a thing or two about creating pickles with an excellent crunch and carefully balanced flavour.

Kühne is also widely available in Canada and is among the country’s leading pickle brands. Our pickles are made in Germany, drawing on more than a century of gherkin expertise and over 300 years of experience in crafting flavourful foods.

Super crunchy, aromatic and deliciously versatile, Kühne pickles are enjoyed by a wide variety of Canadians. They are equally at home beside a classic sandwich, sliced onto a

Official Sauerkraut Sponsor

And pickles are not the only Kühne favourite in Canadian kitchens. Kühne is the maker of Canada’s best-selling sauerkraut, bringing authentic German flavour to traditional recipes, barbecues and modern everyday meals.

For those who enjoy exploring bolder flavours, the Kühne range also includes fermented specialities inspired by cuisines from around the world. Kimchi-style sauerkraut brings together traditional cabbage expertise and a lively, spicy character, while beetroot adds earthy sweetness and vibrant colour to everyday meals. Sun-dried tomatoes offer an intensely savoury, Mediterranean-inspired flavour that works beautifully in salads, sandwiches and sharing platters. Amongst our other vegetable products, these highlights show just how varied and exciting preserved vegetables can be.

Why pickles bring people together

Pickles may be simple, but the memories and traditions connected to them are remarkably diverse. For some people, they are an essential part of a family recipe. For others, they are the perfect snack, the finishing touch on a burger or an exciting ingredient waiting to be rediscovered.

That sense of familiarity and discovery is at the heart of Picklefest. The festivals give established brands, small producers, home picklers and pickle fans a place to share ideas, taste new creations and celebrate a flavour that crosses cultures and generations.
